Standing seam metal roofing is a specific type of concealed fastener metal roof panel. This means that the panels interlock using a clamping system instead of relying on screws to hold everything together. As a result, standing seam metal roofing provides a polished, seamless look that is preferred for residential applications and many commercial builds.
The biggest difference that you’ll notice with standing seam panels is that there are fewer opportunities for failure over time. Without fasteners to hold the panels together or to attach the panels to the roof decking, there are no holes that can lead to leaks as hardware deteriorates over time.
Architectural Shingles
In the 1980s, enhancements to the dimensional shingle resulted in a new generation of high-quality asphalt roofing products with distinctive, often dramatic, appearances. With these advancements came a new name: architectural roofing shingles. Also known as laminated or dimensional shingles, architectural roofing shingles are among the highest quality roofing products made.
Traditionally, they are composed of a heavy fiberglass mat base and ceramic-coated mineral granules that are tightly embedded in carefully refined, water-resistant asphalt.
Timberline Solar is made up of shingles, not panels or heavy tiles. These shingles are water-shedding, strong and warranted to withstand winds up to 130 mph. Rack-mounted solar installations—where the solar is separate from the roof—require the drilling of dozens of holes into the roof membrane. Any resulting damage related to those holes is not typically covered by roof warranties.
For homeowners who already know the quality of GAF roofing products, the Timberline Solar™ roof has the same wind and water-shedding warranty coverage as Timberline HDZ.
Short for thermoplastic polyolefin, TPO is a single-ply roofing membrane that offers excellent performance at a cost-effective price. Heat-welded seams provide superior strength. TPO's long-term heat, UV, and natural fungal resistance, plus flexibility without need for plasticizers also make TPO a reliable low-slope roofing system.
Walking decks are extremely popular with single family residential properties, multi-family living communities, commercial properties and industrial buildings. If walking decks are not at ground level or have subterranean parking, typically all substrates must have a type of waterproofing system. These systems should be able to withstand any heavy pedestrian traffic, be waterproof and meet a coefficient of friction requirements. There are several different types of waterproof decking systems.
